Jay Bower is not just Hanging Corpses, check out his new release!

Jay Bower is a horror author living outside St. Louis, MO in the forest of Southern Illinois. He spends his time reading, writing, and convincing his wife the dark stories he writes do not involve her.
One time punk-rock skateboarder and heavy metal kid of the 80s, Jay approaches his work with the same indie attitude as those early punk bands.

My newest release is called Cadaverous. It’s best described as “heavy metal demonic mayhem.”

When the sun went dark, it was only just the beginning…

Gaige Penrod yearns for the light of musical greatness. A self-taught metal guitarist with a dream of being the greatest, he finds himself drawn to a concert celebrating an eclipse, where he is overcome by an otherworldly presence that changes him forever.

As Gaige searches for answers, he becomes obsessed with the idea of fulfilling his musical destiny, and he sets out to reunite his band on his quest for glory. But in his pursuit of fame, he makes a deal with a shadowy figure, and unleashes a sinister force that threatens to consume him and everyone around him.

Cadaverous is a chilling tale of the dangers of unchecked ambition and the horrors that leave us questioning the true cost of our own desires.

 The Tough Questions

From Me:

•    Where is your favorite place to write? Read? For both, it’s normally my couch.
•    What did you want to be when you grew up? A surfer and an astronaut (in that order)
•    What is one thing you need when you sit down to write? My chihuahua.
•    What is one tip you would like to share with an aspiring author? Know your “why.” Let that influence your craft and business decisions.
•    Are you a pantser or plotter? A little bit of both, but I definitely lean toward the pantser side of things.

From BOH reader Heather L.

•    Chili – beans or no beans? Beans. Is it even chili without the beans?
•    Who’s your favorite superhero and why? Spiderman. He’s got amazing abilities and…spider web? Hell yeah!
•    DC or Marvel and why is it Marvel? Marvel, it’s not even close.
•    You need to hide a body - who do you call to help you? My wife.
•    Favorite song to belt out in the shower?
NO ONE wants to hear me sing.
•    Next project (what are you currently working on)? A couple short stories and then possibly a haunted house/ghost series.
•    Scary movies - complete darkness or all the lights on? In the dark. That’s the best way!
•    Cats or dogs? Cats.
•    Who is your current favorite author? Ania Ahlborn. She’s amazing!
•    Favorite horror movie? The Shining.
•    Cake - vanilla or chocolate? Yes. I’m a huge fan of cake.
•    Pizza - pineapple or definitely never on a pizza? Who the hell puts pineapple in a pizza? That’s just wrong!

From BOH reader Derek T.

•    Is there a particular author that inspired you to write horror? Stephen King.
•    Are there any things required when you write?, i.e., listening to certain music? an adult beverage? complete silence? stuff like that. Normally I need complete silence or music, but it has to be instrumental so it’s often classical music.
•    Do you read or write anything that's not horror? Yes, I sure do (but not many know about it. Yet.)
•    Mountains or beach? The beach.
•    Would you go to space? I sure would!
•    Do you eat supper or dinner? Dinner.
•    Were you a good student? Umm…I started off kinda rough, but ended on a high note. It took me a bit to settle in while I was in college.
•    Your favorite thing on French fries? Salt.

From BOH reader Shannon E.

•    Why did you decide you wanted to be an author? I love crafting stories and building new worlds.
•    Is there anything you don't eat? Asparagus and brussel sprouts. They’re gross af.
•    Who Are the Special People in Your Life? My wife and son. Everything I do is with them in mind.
•    What’s Something You’re Proud of? My budding author career. Building a community has been a humbling experience.
•    What were you like as a child? I could be a little bossy toward my brother and a smart-ass toward my parents.
